MBKS appoints members to Market and Hawker Liaison Committee

KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) on Friday (Dec 15) appointed members to the Market and Hawker Liaison Committee, paving the way for a collaborative and productive term from January 2024 to December 2024.

A total of 31 committee members were officially appointed during the session, receiving certificates of appointment.

“These members, carefully selected from traders operating within markets and hawker centres under the jurisdiction of MBKS, are committed to serving a one-year term aimed at addressing pertinent issues concerning their respective markets and the hawkers,” it said through a statement.

“Tan Choon Yong was elected as the chairman of the Liaison Committee.”

The session was graced by the presence of MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, along with Councillor Mok Chuang Ping, the chairman of the MBKS Standing Committee for Markets and Petty Traders, and MBKS deputy mayor Datuk Zaiedi Suhaili.

During the session, Wee emphasised the vital role of the liaison committee in advocating traders’ concerns and maintaining the esteemed reputation of their centres.

He urged the committee members to engage actively with MBKS, highlighting issues faced by traders, and committed to upholding the cleanliness and overall wellbeing of the facilities.
