KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) on Monday donated 40kg of organic compost as part of efforts to educate the community about organic waste composting methods and reducing the volume of food waste in landfills.

The recipients were SMK Padungan, SK Lumba Kuda, Masjid Darul Akhirat Jalan Lumba Kuda, and Surau Darul Ibadah Jalan Mendu.

“It underscores the significance of individual and collective efforts in preserving the environment,”said Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng in a press statement.

This initiative is aimed at enhancing the garden and landscaping efforts of the schools and mosques in the community, he said.

At the handing over MBKS officers provided a brief overview of the proper usage and composting process to ensure the organic compost is utilised effectively for gardening and landscaping purposes.

Wee emphasised that this initiative aligns with the Healthy City goals, striving to create a health-supportive environment, enhance the quality of life, provide sanitation and hygiene solutions, and offer access to healthcare.

“The council applauds the community for its contributions, such as making organic compost from home food waste,”he said.
