KUCHING, May 18: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng has disclosed that six positive rabies cases have been recorded this week.

The first case, as reported by the mayor, involves a bite incident involving a free-roaming pet. The incident occurred at Foochow No 1 in Kuching.

“The second case occurred at Kampung Entanggor in Sebuyau, and it is a bite case involving a free-roaming pet.

“The third case occurred at Kampung Munggu Limo in Serian, involving a stray dog.

“The fourth case occurred at Bandar Jaya in Bintulu, and it is a bite case involving a free-roaming pet,” Wee said during his ShallWeeTalk live session with the community today.

Meanwhile, the fifth case happened at Kampung Sagah in Bau, and was a bite case involving a free-roaming pet, while the sixth case happened at Lorong 1, Siol Kandis in Kuching, and was also a bite case involving a free-roaming pet.

“So, we hope that everyone will continue to ensure that all of their pets have received vaccinations.

“A few days ago, I invited and spoke with all of those who had received notice of compound, and the majority of them came to appeal, and because it was their first offence, we gave them a reduced rate. We understand that the economy is not good.

“However, this is only for the first offence. In the next round, we will stick to the specified rate,” the mayor said. — DayakDaily
