KUCHING, June 22: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) is looking to place waste containers across its hawker centres as part of efforts to improve cleanliness and encourage proper waste disposal among patrons.
According to MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, the initiative was proposed by the council committee during a meeting.
Wee noted that providing waste containers at hawker centres is a positive initiative, despite some countries opting otherwise, as it makes it easier for patrons to dispose of their waste.
“We will place several of these waste containers in the area to make it easier for patrons to discard their disposable plates and cups.
“This is a reasonable request, and the council is always open to appropriate suggestions put forward by the public,” he said during the launch of the Food Premises Cleanliness Campaign held at the Song Kheng Hai Hawker Centre here today.
At the same time, Wee reminded the public that council members and staff are enhancing mobile services to help ensure Kuching remains a clean city.
“The council is unable to address every request for urban enhancement immediately, as each proposal must undergo a rigorous evaluation process to ensure it effectively serves the public interest. I hope the public would understand the council and work together to have a better city.”
Wee emphasised that all government agencies must collaborate as a cohesive team to serve the public interest, understand system operations, and ensure that those systems are implemented effectively. — DayakDaily
