KUCHING, Dec 2: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) is stepping up efforts to protect the public from fraud and commercial crimes, with Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng confirming close collaboration with the police to develop joint strategies.

Wee, together with Deputy Mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili and senior MBKS officers, today received a courtesy visit from the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) of the Royal Malaysia Police, led by deputy head of investigation and legal Superintendent Mohd Syafiq Jinuin Abdullah.

The session provided a platform for both parties to discuss pressing issues affecting residents, including the rise in scams, illegal money-laundering activities, and the proliferation of scam-related advertisements throughout Kuching South.

Strategies to curb such criminal activities were explored, with a strong emphasis on proactive measures to prevent the public from falling victim to fraud.

Wee emphasised that the meeting marked a key initiative to strengthen cooperation in tackling the growing challenges of commercial crime in the city.

“Close collaboration and coordinated efforts between MBKS and the police, particularly through public education and awareness campaigns, is vital.

“Protecting our community from scams and fraudulent activities requires strong cooperation. We appreciate the proactive efforts of the Police Department and look forward to working closely together on campaigns that enhance public awareness and safety,” he said in a media release today.
