KUCHING, Dec 19: The Kuching Autistic Association (KAA) will host the Meow Autism Run 2026 on April 12, 2026, starting at 6am from Kuching South City Council (MBKS) to raise funds and awareness for people with autism.
The event is open to runners, walkers, families and supporters of all ages and abilities, with 3km and 5km routes available.
KAA secretary Duane Reggie, who is the organising chairperson, said the annual run is an opportunity for the community to support people with autism.
“Every step taken during this event helps us create a more inclusive environment and provide meaningful support to individuals on the autism spectrum,” he said.
This year, KAA is also inviting all individuals with special needs to participate, making the run fully inclusive and welcoming. Group registration is available through relevant associations or centres.
Funds raised from the event will directly support KAA’s programs, including therapy services, educational resources, and community outreach initiatives for over 170 children and adults with autism at the association’s centres in Batu Kawa.
KAA operates on an annual budget of over RM1.5 million, with an additional RM800,000 needed beyond student fees to sustain its services.
KAA’s Educational and Vocational Training Centre provides individualized education and training for children and adults aged 3 to 44. Its Sunshine Hub Sheltered Workshop trains adults with autism in gardening, housekeeping, artwork, beadwork, baking and cooking.
Registration is now open, and the community is encouraged to participate, volunteer or donate. Those unable to attend can sponsor a runner or make a direct contribution to KAA.
