LUNDU, Mar 10:  The Metropolitan Food Cluster Opar (MFC Opar) project has reached nearly 30 per cent completion and is ahead of schedule, marking steady progress in Sarawak’s efforts to strengthen food security and modernise its agricultural sector.

The project, spanning 84 hectares, is a collaboration between the Sarawak Government and the Netherlands, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing modern agricultural practices, innovation and sustainable food production.

“Harnessing advanced Dutch technology, this project aims to bring high-value food products from local farms to the global market. 

“At the same time, it’s inspiring young entrepreneurs to enter the agro-business world with modern, tech-driven, and competitive approaches,” said Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom in a statement.

Scheduled for completion in June 2027, MFC Opar is expected to create new opportunities for farmers and agro-entrepreneurs while strengthening local supply chains and economic activity in Lundu and surrounding areas.  —DayakDaily
