SENATOR Michael Mujah Lihan, 64, has been reappointed as a member of the Dewan Negara for a second term by the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN).
His renomination was proposed by Bukit Saban assemblyman, who is also Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, and seconded by Tatau assemblyman, who is also Minister in the Premier’s Department, Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai.
The appointment was made during the 19th Sarawak DUN sitting here today (Oct 13).
DUN Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, in announcing the selection, said Michael was the only candidate nominated.

When tabling the motion, Uggah said Michael had extensive experience in government administration, political leadership and community development.
“Throughout his first term as a Senator, he has gained experience in parliamentary affairs and the responsibilities of representing Sarawak at the federal level.
“This experience provides a foundation that can be utilised to continue his service in highlighting issues related to the development, welfare and interests of the people of Sarawak,” he said.
Uggah added that Michael’s experience in government administration, political leadership and community involvement would be valuable in carrying out his responsibilities as a Senator.
He said the continuity of Michael’s service would allow him to build on the experience gained during his first term and continue contributing to Sarawak and the country.
Michael, who was born on October 6, 1962, hails from Belaga and holds a Diploma in Public Administration from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
He has also served as Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Murum branch chief since 2016.
Before being appointed as a Senator, he served as political secretary to the Premier from 2016 to 2023.
