ASAJAYA, July 1: Residents in the Asajaya area have been advised not to rush into selling their land, as the district is expected to undergo rapid transformation in the coming years, potentially leading to a significant rise in property values.
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said several major development projects will position Asajaya as one of the key beneficiaries of spillover growth in southern Sarawak.
He said projects such as the proposed new international airport, improved road networks, and the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system are expected to serve as catalysts for economic expansion and physical development in the area.
“Among the areas expected to be directly impacted are Kampung Beliung, Kampung Moyan, Kampung Tambirat, and nearby settlements, given their strategic location close to the proposed new international airport.
“Do not rush into selling your land. Consider the long-term benefits, as property values in this area are expected to continue rising once these development projects take shape,” he said in a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news.
He highlighted this when officiating the 2026 Ngiling Tikai Ceremony for the Asajaya District held at Kampung Moyan Ledang Community Hall on Tuesday (June 30).
In this regard, Abdul Karim, who is also the Asajaya assemblyman, urged landowners to carefully evaluate their decisions before disposing of their assets, particularly land not earmarked for government acquisition.
He added that ongoing and planned infrastructure developments are set to reshape Asajaya’s development landscape, boosting property values while creating new economic opportunities for local communities.
He also encouraged residents to prepare for these changes by upgrading their skills, prioritising education, and positioning themselves to take advantage of emerging economic opportunities that can improve household income and living standards.
The event was also attended by Samarahan Division Deputy Resident Rais Ahmat, Asajaya District Officer Jerry Zannuddin Bidin, Temenggong of the Malay community for Samarahan Division Temenggong Chek Bujang, Temenggong of the Chinese community for Samarahan Division Temenggong Liew Shark Sen, Pemanca Jong Tze Ted, Penghulu John Gawit Dugat, and Kampung Moyan Ledang village chief Pridy Regus. — DayakDaily
