KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25: Federal Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has likened Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s leadership to a “kek lapis of progress”, carefully built layer by layer with empathy, integrity and creativity to ensure holistic development for the people of Sarawak.
Speaking during the Anak Sarawak Dinner held in conjunction with Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak (LBAS) 2025 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here tonight, Nanta said the Premier’s leadership embodies the same meticulous and thoughtful process that goes into crafting Sarawak’s iconic kek lapis (layer cake).
“Just like a kek lapis that is neatly arranged and rich in flavour, the Premier’s leadership has achieved progress one layer at a time—beginning with a strong foundation, followed by layers of innovation, social advancement, economic growth and deep community empowerment,” he said.

“In previous statements, I have often described his leadership as a ‘kek lapis of progress’, and today that analogy truly comes to life,” he said, adding that like baking a kek lapis, Abang Johari’s leadership demands precision, patience and creativity.
“It is not only about implementing large-scale projects, but also about blending values of humanity, unity, compassion and integrity to ensure that every layer of progress is not merely physical, but alive and meaningful to the people,” he emphasised.
He further noted that Sarawak’s remarkable achievements under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak-led (GPS) government are rooted in its political stability and strong racial harmony, which have made the State’s voice pivotal in national politics, particularly following the 14th and 15th General Elections.
“To all Sarawakians, whether at home or abroad, let us continue to stand firmly behind our Premier in building a more advanced, prosperous and dignified Sarawak,” he concluded.
The dinner was graced by Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
Among those present were Abang Johari; Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, who serves as LBAS 2025 patron; and Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Organised by Sarawak Volunteers, LBAS is now in its 16th edition, serving as a key platform to foster unity and strengthen ties among Sarawakians living, working or studying in Peninsular Malaysia.
With the theme “Prosperity Through Unity in Diversity”, this year’s event featured a wide range of activities including the Sarawak Expo with over 160 exhibitors from government agencies and local entrepreneurs; the Kenyalang Career Initiative offering job-matching and recruitment sessions; Kenyalang Speaks, modelled after TED Talks by accomplished Sarawakians; the student pitching competition Crocs Tank; Pocket Show performances; the Sarawak Live Kitchen serving local cuisine; the Town Hall Session with the Premier of Sarawak; and the Anak Sarawak Dinner. — DayakDaily
