MIRI (July 30): The Magistrates’ Court here today fined a caretaker RM1,000 in default two weeks’ jail for operating an entertainment outlet beyond the permitted hours.

Magistrate Randu Rangen convicted Timothy Jok, 26, of Taman Desa Senadin Phase 2 on his own guilty plea to a charge framed under Section 24 of the Entertainment Ordinance 2001, punishable under Section 28 of the same ordinance.

The charge carries a maximum fine of RM2,000 or imprisonment not more than six months or both, upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, Timothy was found operating the premises beyond the permitted hours as specified by the local authority in its licence.

He committed the offence at an entertainment outlet at Waterfront Commercial Centre at around 2.45am on July 28 this year.

In mitigation, he pleaded for leniency as it was his first offence and that he only works there as a caretaker.

Insp Mudzilawati Abdul Rahman prosecuted the case, while the accused was unrepresented by a legal counsel.
