Miri City Mayor’s Awards nominations open until Oct 22

MIRI (Sept 23): The nomination for this year’s Miri City Mayor’s Awards is now open with the closing date for nominations set on October 22 at 5pm.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on Dec 6 at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club.

Mayor Adam Yii asked members of the public to nominate individuals and organisations whose contributions had made a meaningful difference to the city.

He said nominations across all 10 award categories were welcome and could be submitted online or through the designated submission arrangements of Miri City Council (MCC).

Yii said the 2026 edition features 10 categories recognising contributions across various sectors, including Miri Green & Sustainability Award; Community Well-being, Health & Social Impact Award; Tourism, Hospitality & City Promotion Award; Business, Entrepreneurship & Economic Contribution Award; Innovation, Digital & Smart City Award; Media, Communications & Digital Influence Award; Education, Youth & Talent Development Award; Culture, Arts, Heritage & Sports Award; Grand Miri City Mayor’s Special Award; and Posthumous Recognition.

“These categories highlight our understanding that building a better city is not only about physical development.

“It is about those who protect our environment, strengthen our communities, create economic opportunities, develop our young people, promote our city, embrace innovation, preserve our culture and heritage, and contribute towards the wellbeing of others,” he told a press conference at Miri City Hall on Tuesday.

He reiterated that the awards are open to a broad range of eligible nominees, including Sarawakians, Malaysians and expatriates, as well as individuals, organisations, associations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community groups, educational institutions, companies and private-sector entities, and other eligible institutions or entities.

International nominees may also be considered through invitation or recommendation, subject to the approved process.

Yii said nominations should clearly outline the contributions made, the nominee’s specific role, the beneficiaries and the impact or results achieved.

Nominators, Yii added, are also encouraged to submit supporting evidence, such as photographs, certificates, official reports, statistics, media coverage and other relevant documents, to facilitate assessment and verification.

He said all information submitted must be true and accurate, stressing that MCC reserved the right to verify the information where necessary.

Yii called on residents, businesses, organisations and institutions to participate in the awards by nominating deserving candidates and helping highlight the contributions that continue to shape Miri’s progress.

Also present were Councillor Jamil Bujang as the chairman for Miri City Mayor’s Award 2026 committee; the council’s Deputy city secretary Petrick Linggie Taboh; fellow councillors and heads of department and section of MCC.
