MIRI, 12 September: Miri team scored three points after defeating Kapit 3-1 in Sarawak Premier League 2026 Zone B (North) action at the Miri Open Stadium, here, this evening.
The President of the Sarawak Football Association (FAS), Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said that Miri's actions to bring down young players in the Sarawak Premier League competition deserved praise for opening up space for new players to gain competitive experience.
According to him, the approach could also help Sarawak form more selections of players who can potentially represent the state in other competitions as well as highlight professional football rivalries.
"Our hope in the Sarawak Premier League is to produce layered players who can represent Sarawak in other competitions and also to represent Kuching City FC in professional football, Malaysia Football League", he said when interviewed by TVS, here today.
Fazzrudin said that the consistent involvement of young players would allow FAS to have more playmakers to stand out from higher competition.
"When the team starts putting young players in, then we'll have a lot of coatings and player databases that we can use to highlight in higher leagues", he said.
Meanwhile, FAS Vice President Sophie Shariee said that the second edition of Sarawak Premier League this year saw participation of 14 teams divided into seven teams in the North Zone and seven teams in the South Zone.
According to him, positive developments can also be seen when most teams show a better level of game maturity than last season.
"All the teams showed maturity in playing and each one of them performed so well compared to last year for both zones, North Zone and South Zone", he said.
While the group stage matches are expected to be completed in early October before the competition continues until the final scheduled for November 7 or 14. - TVS
