Miri Suburban Development Agency to be established - Brother Johari

MIRI, 13 September: The Sarawak Government agreed in principle to create a special development agency for the Miri suburb to accelerate development in the area.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Seri Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the approach takes into account the development needs of rural areas and suburbs Miri has potential to develop.

The proposal can clearly be implemented through the development agency model as used in other areas of Sarawak.

"In principle, we agreed to develop areas outside Miri, Miri and its suburbs, including Lambir and Marudi.

"Maybe we can build the Miri Development Agency", he said while addressing the inaugural session of the United Nations Special Convention Sarawak North Zone at the Miri Indoor Stadium, here today.

Brother Johari said that among the developments under consideration is Beraya New Township, which is seen as potentially a catalyst for the development of Miri suburb.

He clarified that the approach through the specific agency could help coordinate development in the area, as well as development agencies created in other areas of Sarawak. - TVS
