Misunderstanding triggers fight among three men during Chap Goh Mei procession in Bau

BAU, March 5: A misunderstanding sparked a brief brawl involving three men during the Chap Goh Mei procession in Bau town on Tuesday (March 3) night.

Bau District Police chief DSP Poge Nyaon confirmed that police received a report regarding the incident after a video of the altercation circulating on social media.

Preliminary investigations found that the incident occurred on March 3 at about 9.30pm at the parking area of the Bau bus station while the Chap Goh Mei procession was taking place.

“The incident involved three men who were engaged in a fight,” he said in a statement yesterday (March 4).

According to him, two local men aged 20 and 23 later came forward to the Bau Police Station separately to lodge reports admitting their involvement in the incident.

Initial investigations revealed that the altercation stemmed from a misunderstanding which led to a verbal argument before escalating into a physical fight.

“The situation was brought under control quickly after friends present at the scene intervened and separated those involved,” he added, noting that no injuries were reported and both parties have since reconciled.

Despite the reconciliation, police have opened an investigation paper under Section 160 of the Penal Code for committing affray in a public place.

Poge said the case is considered resolved as the suspects have been identified, although further investigations are being carried out to complete the investigation paper before it is referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor.

He also advised members of the public to control their emotions and maintain proper conduct when attending public events.

“Police will not compromise with any individuals who engage in actions that could disturb public order,” he stressed.
