KUCHING: In anticipation of the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations, AirAsia has announced a special offer targeting Sarawakians returning home for the festive season.

Passengers flying to Sarawak will enjoy a fixed price of RM298 during this period, covering flights from Kuala Lumpur to Miri, Sibu, Kuching, and Bintulu, as well as Johor Bahru to Sibu, Miri, and Kuching.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke shared this news on Friday, expressing his hope that the offer would be warmly received by those planning to travel during the upcoming festive period.

He highlighted that flights would be available not only between Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak destinations but also between Johor Baru and selected cities at a one-way rate of RM298.

Additionally, routes between Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, or Tawau  as well as between Johor Baru and Kota Kinabalu, would be priced at RM348.

New Sarawak Tribune reached out to individuals with different backgrounds to get their views on this exclusive offer.

The responses varied, reflecting a spectrum of opinions from those who found the price reasonable to others who expressed concerns about its accessibility for students and the general public.

In my opinion, the price is highly reasonable for the B40 group. Working in Singapore, I usually take a flight from Johor. With this initiative, I’ll be able to spend time with my family after being away in a foreign country for so long.

The price is very reasonable because there are families with low incomes who wish to return to their hometowns to celebrate the Chinese New Year. I am very satisfied because this pricing can alleviate the financial burden for people wanting to return to their hometowns.

Personally, I don’t consider it an offer at RM298. I believe it should be lowered for it to qualify as an offer. It’s a bit too pricey for students like me studying in Kuala Lumpur who want to go back during Chinese New Year. I don’t think I will be going back during Chinese New Year.

The offer of a low price of RM298 is very reasonable for the B40 group. With this price, I am very happy to have the opportunity to spend time with my family in welcoming the Chinese New.
