MIRI, May 19: The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) is set to conduct a comprehensive study on the feasibility of establishing a public university campus in Miri.

This was disclosed by Deputy Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud during a press conference here today after the launch of Miri Parliamentary Education Fair 2024.

He was responding to Miri Member of Parliament (MP) Chiew Choon Man’s call for a public university campus in Miri, as well as a campus for Fudan University, China, during the opening of the education fair.

“We will conduct a thorough study to determine if there is a market and enough students to justify setting up a public university campus here,” stated Mustapha.

Today’s event, which aimed to promote higher education opportunities, also saw the presence of event organising chairman Alan Ling.

At the press conference, Mustapha has also mentioned about ‘Programme Sulung’ or ‘Pembangunan Siswa Sulung Keluarga Malaysia’, designed to assist underprivileged students from the B40 group in enrolling in public universities.

This initiative ensures that education becomes more accessible to those in need, providing free courses and aiding with the registration process.

“‘Programme Sulung’ has already been implemented, and we urge every Education Office nationwide to spread awareness about this programme to ensure that students from the B40 group can take advantage of this opportunity,” added Mustapha.
