Chiew presents a cheque for the contribution to SK St Columba Miri headmistress Eno Liau.

MIRI (March 24): Two primary schools here have received contributions totalling RM100,000 for the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems.

The contributions were presented by Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister and Miri MP Chiew Choon Man during a recent visit to the two schools.

The recipient schools were SK St Columba Miri and SJKC Chung Hua Lutong.

Chiew said the donations were part of ongoing efforts to instal CCTV systems in schools here to strengthen security within their compounds.

He said the CCTV systems would help ensure the safety of students, teachers and school staff, while enabling school authorities to better monitor their surroundings.

“Safety in schools must be given priority. We do not want to see incidents or tragedies occurring in places that should be safe for our children.

“Student safety is a shared responsibility,” he said.

Chiew noted that such systems also serve as a deterrent against crime, misconduct, and other security threats.

He also expressed appreciation to the schools’ management and their parent-teacher associations for their proactive efforts in submitting proposals aimed at ensuring a safe, conducive and harmonious learning environment for their students.
