MUKAH (March 31) Police arrested two local men and seized suspected methamphetamine during an operation along Jalan Bukut, Balingian at about 12.45pm on Monday.

Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the suspects, aged 24 and 30, were detained after a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division stopped a suspicious four-wheel-drive vehicle at a heavy vehicle workshop area.

“An inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery of a transparent straw containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, kept inside a cigarette box. The total gross weight of the drugs seized was estimated at 0.38g,” he said in a statement today.

He added that both suspects, who work as labourers, were brought to the Mukah police headquarters for further action.

He said a urine test found the 30-year-old suspect positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, while the younger suspect tested negative.

The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession, and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for drug abuse.

Both suspects have been remanded for three days until April 4 to facilitate investigations.

Muhamad Rizal stressed that Mukah police remain committed to combating drug-related activities and urged the public to provide information through the police hotline or the nearest police station.
