MUKAH (March 29): Police arrested two local men suspected of involvement in drug-related activities and housebreaking in separate operations conducted on Saturday.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the first operation was carried out at 7.30am by the roadside at Kampung Litong, where a 26-year-old fisherman was detained.
“A body search did not uncover any illegal items, but a urine test found the suspect positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952. The suspect was released on police bail pending prosecution,” he said in a statement.
Muhamad Rizal said a 31-year-old oil palm plantation worker was arrested in the second operation at about midday in a room of a longhouse in Dijih.
He said police found a transparent straw tube containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine weighing about 0.04g.
“A urine test also found the suspect positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. The suspect has three previous records involving criminal and drug offences.
“He is also suspected of involvement in a housebreaking and theft case involving a gas cylinder on March 27 at a longhouse in Nanga Sebatu, Selangau,” he said.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of DDA 1952, as well as Section 457 of the Penal Code.
The suspect has been remanded until March 31 to assist in investigations.
