BAU: Deputy Minister of Transport, Datuk Henry Harry Jinep revealed that his ministry is in the midst of constructing a major drainage system to ensure the progress of the road construction project along Jalan Jambusan is carried out smoothly.

He explained that a bigger drain needed to be built as the existing drainage channel at that area was unable to handle heavy water overflow.

Henry, who is also Tasik Biru assemblyman said this happened especially during prolonged rain, which led to delays in the construction work at the site.

“There is an underground drainage system, but it often gets clogged with soil, so we had to rebuild it.

“After that, we constructed concrete drains, but the water overflow from the area remains a challenge.

“We are now constructing a longer drainage system to manage the excess water more effectively,” he said.

He told reporters this after officiating the presentation of Certificates of Recognition as Sarawak Natives at the Bau District Office yesterday (Sept 13).

Henry also noted that he personally reached out to the relevant landowners and the contractor that oversees the project to ensure the project continues without further disruption.

“The project is underway, and they are working on it. I have been in contact with the developers and the landowners,” he added.

As such, he urged the public not to jump to conclusions or blame local leadership for any perceived lack of progress.
