SIBU: The newly appointed Pemanca Paing Tawi pledges to assist the Iban community in addressing all issues they face by collaborating with existing community leaders.
Paing said that there were numerous unresolved appeal cases in Sibu, involving disputes among longhouse residents regarding matters such as land and more.
“Starting today, I will make every effort to resolve all these cases or issues involving longhouse residents in collaboration with the community leaders in the respective areas,” he said.
Paing said this when met by reporters after receiving his appointment letter as the Iban Pemanca from Sibu District Officer Khalid Andong, witnessed by Federal Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing at the Sibu District Office here today (Dec 22).
Paing, 60, who hails from Rumah Dayong, Ulu Assan, expressed joy at the appointment, considering that Sibu had been without an Iban Pemanca for two years.
“With this appointment, I hope to assist the people of Sibu, especially the Iban community,” he added.
Paing, a former Penghulu, said that he was ready to collaborate with all the community leaders under his jurisdiction.
Also present were Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan chairman Robert Lau, Sibu District Officer Khalid Andong, Temenggong Stanley Gramong Bandar and others.
