KUCHING, Dec 10: The newly completed SJK (C) Kai Nang in Kota Samarahan is expected to start operations in March 2024, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Dr Sim, who is also Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, said at the moment, the school board needs about another RM3 million to equip the school, and the Sarawak government will fund most of that amount.

“The school will have a fundraising dinner on Jan 19, 2024, and I will discuss this with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“We will pass them the fund cheque so that the school can start on the new academic year, which is in March,” he told reporters during his visit to SJK (C) Kai Nang’s new school building in Kota Samarahan today.

Meanwhile, Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Sarawak (ACCCIS) secretary-general Datuk Jonathan Chai said that with the construction of the school building completed, they are now in the preparatory process for an occupational permit (OP) from the council, including connecting the water and electricity supply.

According to him, the school’s board has also informed the Sarawak Education Department to prepare for the deployment of teachers and supporting staff.

“Most importantly, for staff, we need Kota Samarahan District Education Office (PPD) to get some students to enrol and study at this school.

“We also hope that the Sarawak Education Department would also approve the preschool programme setup as we anticipate that there will be a high Bumiputera student enrollment here because this is a mixed area with Chinese and Bumiputera residents,” he added. — DayakDaily
