SIBU (Dec 10): Nine units of Rumah Spektra Permata (RSP) in Kemuyang have been handed over to eligible residents, comprising former occupants of Kampung Hilir and Kampung Datu who previously lived in high-risk areas along the riverbank.
Sarawak Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said the handovers are part of the government’s efforts to ensure the safety of local residents through a more organised and comfortable resettlement initiative.
“Today, we are handing over nine houses to those who have been identified.
“Out of the total 110 Rumah Spektra Permata units built by HDC here, only 10 units remain undistributed,” he said.
The Nangka Assemblyman made the remarks after presenting keys to the nine recipients of the Rumah Spektra Permata units in Kemuyang on Wednesday.
According to Dr Annuar, the identification process for recipients has been carried out over the past six months, focusing particularly on those living near high-risk riverbank areas.
Apart from the units under HDC, he said 70 additional units were developed by the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), with only seven units still vacant.
“These remaining houses will be prioritised for extended families from Kampung Datu Lama who previously lived in overcrowded conditions under one roof, or those who were not eligible for resettlement earlier due to issues related to inheritance and compensation,” he said.
Dr Annuar also revealed that the mosque in the new settlement area is almost fully completed and is expected to be ready for use by next year’s Ramadan.
He emphasised that the resettlement effort reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to improving the living standards and well-being of residents in urban Sibu.
Also present were the Chairman of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and Balingian Assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi and HDC Chief Executive Officer Fathi Hambali.
