KUCHING, Jan 6: One rabies case involving a stray dog was reported in Kampung Jugan Buso in Bau this week.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said that the incident occurred when the victim was bitten by a stray dog upon exiting the car while visiting a friend in the village.

“As such, I want to remind the public to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to avoid dog bite incidents,” he said during his ShallWeeTalk live session today.

Wee also urged the community to promptly report sightings of groups of dogs in residential or public areas to the council, rather than just sharing photos on social media.

“Contact the council immediately and provide photographic evidence along with detailed location information so that our enforcement unit can take action in the shortest time,” he said.

Acknowledging the challenges in capturing stray dogs, considering they might have dispersed, Wee, however, assured that the council would conduct patrols and closely monitor reported situations.

“Let’s prioritise safety by reporting promptly and not just taking it to social media. Let’s collaborate to address stray dog concerns effectively,” he added. — DayakDaily
