BINTULU (March 12): Police have arrested two men in separate operations under ‘Op Pintu’ for their alleged involvement in theft cases around town.

Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said in the first case, the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Bintulu District Police Headquarters (IPD) detained a 25-year-old man suspected of stealing sports equipment.

“The suspect was tracked down and arrested at about 1.20am on Wednesday at Town Square Bintulu during a special ‘Op Pintu’ operation.

“Police also seized various sports items believed to have been stolen, which will be used as evidence in the investigation,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to seven years, or a fine, or both upon conviction.

In a separate case, he said CID personnel arrested another man suspected of stealing cash from a lodging premises.

“The suspect was located and detained at about 4pm on Wednesday in a room at a lodging facility in Bintulu during another ‘Op Pintu’ operation,” Nixon said.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a possible fine upon conviction.

Nixon urged members of the public to continue acting as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the police by remaining vigilant over the safety of their property and by channelling information on criminal activities to the police.
