KUCHING (March 24): The new St Jacob Church in Kampung Temaga Dayak in Lundu is more than just a place of worship, but it also reflects unity, strong faith and the hopes of the community, said Billy Sujang.

The Opar assemblyman also said the project will become an important place of worship for present and future generations.

“The cooperation shown by many parties in building this church construction is truly commendable.

“The commitment from the central church in Kuching, St Paris Church Lundu, St Jacob Church, community leaders including the entire villagers clearly reflects the ‘gotong-royong’ spirit that helps make any effort successful,” he told reporters after the church groundbreaking ceremony in Lundu on Sunday.

He also expressed his appreciation to the state government for its support through the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor), which has channelled an initial fund of RM200,000 to kick-start the project.

“This contribution is very meaningful and helps drive the development of this new church. The church will also serve as a centre for unity, good values and stronger community ties,” he said.

He reaffirmed his commitment to continue supporting development efforts that benefit the well-being of the people, especially in terms of spirituality and community harmony.

“I will continue to help not only St Jacob Chapel, but also other churches that need improvements,” he said, adding that he hopes the construction will be completed within two years.

The ceremony was also attended by the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Kuching (Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam) Rt Rev Datuk Danald Jute.
