KUCHING: Event organisers are welcomed to bring in more events such as music festivals or conferences to Sarawak.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said recently the state has hosted many festivals and conferences.
“Recently, Sarawak has been very blessed with so many conferences and events, and for the first time our hotels are so full.
“Apart from the conferences, we have a lot of music festivals, such as Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF), and the inaugural Borneo Sonic Music Festival,” he said in a video message which was posted on his social media account.
Dr Sim, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman said that unfortunately a lot of these pop music festivals in the rest of Malaysia have faced controversies and required a kill switch.
“In Sarawak, we welcome them all, despite that we are catching up with the infrastructure or hotels and convention centres,” he said.
In another video message, he said he was very inspired by a Sarawakian, who is based in London for more than 30 years, has come to Sarawak and brought the psychopathology conference to the state.
“This conference is very small, only about 500 delegates but 95 percent of them are from European countries.
“And the beautiful thing they told me is that the things here in Sarawak are so cheap and everybody buys extra luggages. Hence, this stimulates our local economy,” he said.
Thus, Dr Sim, said that he is looking forward to more Sarawakian all over the world, no matter where they are to help secure more international conferences for Sarawak.
“This is one of the ways of contributing to (our) home, Sarawak,” he said.
