MUKAH: More than 300 participants joined in the Dragon Dance Open 2023 and Lion Dance Competition held at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Chong Boon, recently.
The participants consisted of primary and secondary school students from Mukah, Dalat, Bintulu, Sibu and Kuching.
Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said this competition has its own special features.
“This is because various races took part such as Chinese, Malay, Melanau, Iban and so on.
“In addition, it shows that the people of Sarawak safeguard unity because they are able to carry out activities together,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the Dragon Dance Open 2023 and Lion Dance Competition held at SJKC Chong Boon, yesterday.
Adding on, he said, this kind of competition shows unity among one another, thus promoting Sarawak as a united state.
“We need to maintain harmony and unity with each other to live harmoniously in this state,” he said.
Meanwhile, chairman of the Mukah Dragon Lion Dance and Wushu Association, Ho Ing Siong said that this competition was jointly organised with the Sarawak Arts Council.
He also expressed his appreciation to all the sponsors who were involved in making this competition a success.
At the same time, prizes to the winners were also presented for the dragon dance competition.
The Mukah Dragon and Lion Mukah Association managed to clinch the championship title followed by Eragon North and South Lion and Dragon Dance Association Sarawak as runners-up.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Education’s special officer Li Han Boon and Sarawak State Wushu Dragon Dance and Lion Dance Association chairman Lee King Choon.
