Overflowing garbage disposal near school sparks hygiene concerns

BINTULU (Feb 24): An overflowing rubbish bin near the second exit of SMK Bandar has drawn attention during a routine Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) project inspection by Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang on Tuesday morning.

The issue was raised by the school’s Parent-Teacher Association, which highlighted that the existing rubbish bin is insufficient to meet current needs, resulting in frequent overflow.

Pang said the situation not only affects the cleanliness of the surroundings but may also pose hygiene concerns for students and staff.

“A school should be a clean and safe environment for our children to learn and grow.

“Even what seems like a small matter can have a daily impact on students and teachers,” he said.

The PIBG has formally requested the installation of an additional rubbish bin to address the problem.

Following an on-site assessment, Pang said he immediately contacted the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) to request the provision of another unit, expressing hope that the matter would be resolved promptly.

He stressed that no issue concerning public well-being is too small to be addressed, especially when it involves the learning environment of students.

Pang also called for continued cooperation among all parties to ensure schools in the constituency remain clean, safe and conducive for education.
