SELANGAU: A new exit ramp from the Pan Borneo Highway into Selangau is needed as the current one bypasses the small town, says Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
After declaring the Selangau Waterfront Project and District Office open on Monday (Dec 18), Abang Johari said he had instructed the Public Works Department to conduct a study on the proposal.
"The (slip road) from the highway into Selangau is quite far from the actual town.
"If this is not corrected, it will affect the town's economy," he said.
He added that the current slip road out of Selangau onto the highway will, however, remain.
Johari said Selangau has the potential to become an agricultural hub, especially for coffee.
Together with oil palm, he said, it could raise the income of the people there.
With the completion of the waterfront, the town is expected to attract visitors from Sibu and Bintulu.
