KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) will play its role in helping keep political stability at the national level.
In stating this, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg stated as a partner in the unity government, his party will give input on the stability.
He added that it is their hope that the government’s political approach will be rational to ensure Malaysia continues to be stable and focuses on developing the country.
“PBB emphasised on the stability of the government so that the federal government can govern and focus more on effective development at the federal level.
“We want to ensure that Malaysia has endurance and resilience in facing global challenges including the living cost challenges,” said Abang Johari, who is PBB president, at a press conference after the PBB Supreme Council meeting here Sunday.
Meanwhile, when asked to comment on Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi mooting new laws to ensure an elected government stays in office for its full term, Abang Johari said he could not comment further on the matter.
“I am not sure if the law can be implemented or not so I will leave it to the law expert. We know in our Constitution, we have freedom of choice, hence we cannot force it.
“However, we can use certain rules to help us monitor the political situation because our democratic government is based on freedom of choice,” he explained.
Nevertheless, he added, the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government wants political stability and for the government to focus on restoring its economy.
“In fact, as I shared yesterday, Malaysia has a recipe and strength for it to progress. If we have the stability and expertise, it will benefit the whole country.
“And if we gain income from it, we distribute it to the people through several programmes.
“This is what Sarawak is doing exactly. When we have relatively good income, we give it back to our people,” he said.
