KUCHING, Dec 18: Islamic values should be confined to Muslims and not enforced on people of other faiths, says Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan.
According to Voon in a statement today, people of other religions have values that differ from Islamic or Muslim values.
He said cake decorations with Christmas messages have become an issue in the last few days.
“We know Islam is the official religion (of Malaysia), but we need to protect other faiths as well. Christians celebrate Christmas, and people of other faiths also join in to celebrate in Sarawak,” he said.
On the same note, Voon said Malayans or political parties from Malaya that are in Sarawak and Sabah should not follow what is happening in Malaya and should drop the idea of pursuing supremacy of race and religion issues.
Recently, he said, everyone has seen how the issues of prime minister have been played by certain people or politicians in Malaya.
“Malaysia doesn’t belong to Malays alone, and Sarawak and Sabah don’t belong to Malays. Dayaks are the Orang Asal in Sarawak, and Kadazans Dusuns are the natives of Sabah,” he added. — DayakDaily
