MIRI (Feb 22): Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil has retained his position as Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Marudi branch chairman after being returned unopposed at the branch’s Triennial General Meeting (TGM).

The meeting, held on Sunday, saw Councillor (Cr) Edward Mendai elected as deputy chairman.

Cr Wahid Sayun, Cr Philip Anyi and community leader Wen Mangelit were returned as vice-chairmen I, II and III respectively.

Nelson Nang Balai was appointed branch secretary, with Dennis Jalin serving as deputy secretary.

Sim Ching Chai and David Wen were elected treasurer and deputy treasurer respectively, with Donny Joseph was appointed information chief.

For the Women’s Wing, Stella Lenda Tadong was chosen as chief, while Martin Dinil was elected youth chief.

Penguang, who is also the state deputy minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government and Marudi assemblyman, said the branch adopted four resolutions to be submitted to the PDP Triennial General Assembly (TGA) in May.

“The first resolution is the branch’s full support for me as chairman and as a candidate in the coming state election, and the second is our full support for Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing as PDP president,” he told reporters after the meeting.

“The third is our full support for the Right Honourable Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari, to continue leading Gabungan Parti Sarawak,” he added.

Penguang said the fourth resolution calls for the PDP Marudi branch to recommend that the party’s central committee members be retained without contest, leaving it to the discretion of the PDP president to determine the best leadership line-up for the party.

About 500 members from branches throughout the constituency attended the Marudi branch TGM.
