Death motorcycle rider released into the drain at Central Miri

MIRI, Oct. 6: A 56-year-old local man died after his motorcycle derailed and fell into a 1.5 meter deep ditch in Miri Central, near SL Cafe, early Sunday morning.

Miri Regional Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said that the party received reports of a fatal accident that occurred at about 6.30 am.

"The motorcycle rider is believed to have been travelling from the direction of Miri Central towards Light Road before losing control while crossing a straight road near SL Cafe.

"So the motorcycle went in the opposite direction, before it was released and fell into a ditch", he said in a statement today.

According to him, the victim suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Miri Hospital Medical Assistant at about 7:39 am.

While the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The public with information regarding the incident is requested to appear and assist in the investigation by contacting Traffic Investigation Officer, Insp. Nor Afifah Nordin at 019-5264640 or 085-430479, or any nearby police station.

In the meantime, road users are advised to always exercise prudent driving and adhere to established road rules in order to avoid harm to other road users. - TVS
