KUCHING, Sept 14: People's confidence is seen as an important form of 'infrastructure' that forms the basis for Sarawak's development and progress, in addition to physical facilities such as roads, bridges and digital networks.

Sarawak's Prime Minister, His Highness Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that in an increasingly complex and uncertain world, peace and stability cannot be seen as something that will stand alone, but must be maintained together.

According to him, development not only depends on physical infrastructure but also requires another essential foundation which is trust that binds to the stability and progress of society.

"We often talk about infrastructure like roads, bridges, ports, energy and digital connectivity. But there is another form of infrastructure that's more important.

"Infrastructure is trust. Without faith, development will not take us far", he said through the text of a speech read by Deputy Prime Minister Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embassy at the Council for Religious Gratitude on the occasion of Malaysia's 2026 National Day celebration here tonight.

He said that political stability gives direction, economic stability opens up opportunities, while social stability builds people's confidence and confidence in the future.

Brother Johari also emphasized that Sarawak's greatest strength lies not only in natural resources or economic power, but in trust and good relations between the people built through simplicity, tolerance and mutual respect.

"In societies of different religions and cultures, differences should not be a source of division. On the contrary, it can be a source of power", he said. - TVS
