LAWAS (March 25): The Malaysian Muslim Welfare Association (Perkim) Lawas branch hosted a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at Rumah Perkim at RKB Lawas yesterday.
The event was graced by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and wife Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud, who is also Perkim Lawas chairwoman.
Also present were Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong and wife Datin Tunong Palong.
In his speech, Awang Tengah said Perkim Lawas is active in many religious, welfare and charitable activities in the district, including providing Raya aid and other forms of assistance to the needy.
He also touched on the state government’s outreach approach and initiatives such as the Sarawak Basic Needs Assistance (SKAS) aimed at alleviating the financial burden of the low-income group.
On the Lawas front, he said various infrastructure development and upgrading projects such as the Sabah-Sarawak Link Road, Northern Coastal Highway and new airports are being rolled out for better connectivity in the district.
Also present were the Premier’s political secretary Awangku Jinal Abedin Pengiran Jawa and Northern Region Development Agency director Datuk Ubaidillah Abdul Latip.
