KUCHING, Oct 11: The formation of inner strength and spiritual strongholds based on the Qur'an and Sunnah is crucial in addressing modern-day challenges including increasing social symptoms and mental health problems.
Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof said that authentic and ethical empowerment is a key foundation in creating resilient, quality and exemplary society asKhairu ummahOr the best people.
According to him, rapid technological advances offer a wide range of benefits especially in facilitating access to information and science.
"However, the development also presents challenges if society is not guided by sound knowledge.
"When we study ethics without referring to experts and scholars, the differing views spread through technology can be confusing, even risking weakening the public's hold on ethics", he said.
He said this when he inaugurated the Cultural Humanitarian Spirituality Program 3.0 in Kuching, today.
Commenting further, Fadillah raised concerns about the increasing social symptoms and mental health problems among Muslim communities including suicides as well as social misconduct in schools and communities.
"These things should not happen among Muslims who claim to be caliphs on earth and best examples to others.
"So we need to return to religious fundamentals by strengthening the spirituality of ourselves and our families", he said.
Fadillah also hoped that the young preachers born through higher education institutions and universities could play a more active role in guiding society.
He urged those involved to step down to reach out to the community and lead the community back to live up to pure religious values.
