KUCHING, Feb 28: In the spirit of Ramadan, Petroliam National Berhad (PETRONAS) brightened the day for road users by distributing 100 helmets and 1,000 packets of bubur lambuk, promoting road safety while easing the public’s burden.

Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Dato Sri Nancy Shukri said the helmets were sponsored by PETRONAS in Sarawak to help improve road safety.

“These helmets, sponsored by Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) in Sarawak, give members of the public the opportunity to obtain proper safety gear to protect themselves on the road.

“We also want to extend this support especially to young people who may not be able to afford a helmet on their own. This programme allows them to obtain a helmet more easily,” she said after the programme distribution at PETRONAS Ulu Bintawa petrol station in Darul Hana, Petra Jaya, today.

The contribution was held in collaboration with Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM) and Yayasan Kebajikan Negara Malaysia (YKN).

Nancy noted that some elderly recipients also came from nearby villages to receive the items.

She welcomed the effort and hoped more areas would benefit from similar initiatives.

“We also gave out dates and other small gifts to the public, and we hope this can help ease their burden during the Ramadan month,” she said. — DayakDaily
