KAPIT, June 26: A total of 250 recipients from underprivileged communities received basic food baskets under the PETRONAS “Memacu Kehidupan Gawai 2026” Programme held at Rumah Bundong, Bukit Goram, on Thursday (June 25).
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, Works Minister and Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the initiative reflects the continued commitment of various stakeholders in strengthening community well-being, particularly in rural areas.
“Programmes like this are very meaningful as they not only help ease the burden of those in need, but also foster togetherness, unity and care within the community,” he said when officiating the event.
He said the Gawai Dayak celebration is more than a thanksgiving festival, describing it as a symbol of Sarawak’s cultural heritage, identity and unity that should be preserved and passed on to future generations.
“Moreover, strong collaboration between the government, corporate sector and local communities remains key to ensuring inclusive and sustainable development for all,” he added.
The programme, organised by PETRONAS in collaboration with the Kapit District Office, also featured the symbolic presentation of food baskets to recipients identified through the e-Kasih system.
During the same event, a RM30,000 Minor Rural Project (MRP) cheque was handed over to Rumah Bundong to support local community needs and development initiatives.
Also present were PETRONAS senior general manager of Stakeholder Relations Khairuddin Mohd Jaafar, political secretary to the Minister of Works Datuk Alvin Runggah Jimbun, PETRONAS Sarawak general manager Norazibah Md Rabu, Malaysia LNG Companies senior representative Abang Jimmy Abang Mordian, and Tuai Rumah Bundong Tajok. — DayakDaily
