KUCHING, Dec 13: A group of 30 bikers from Kelab Sukan dan Rekreasi PETRONAS (KSRP) recently rode 1,258km from Miri to Kapit to take part in the refurbishment of a longhouse in Kapit and to raise awareness on road safety.

According to group leader Shapian Japar, the bikers assisted the community at Rumah Angkin Ripen, a 30-door longhouse in Kapit, to paint its new public toilet and repair the longhouse.

Meanwhile, Petronas subsidiary Malaysia LNG Group of companies donated fire extinguishers to the longhouse.

“This is KSPR’s annual community outreach programme to create awareness on safety, health, and environment among the rural folks. This year we organised the KSRP Motorbike Tour to Kapit from Nov 24–26.

“In Kapit, we organised a sharing session on safety and environmental protection for the rural communities. We also helped them to refurbish their longhouse,” Shapian said, according to a press release.

Shapian also said that the bikers rode to Kapit on Nov 24, making pit stops at several PETRONAS petrol stations along the way.

“We attended Teku PETRONAS Station’s 22nd Anniversary celebration on the first day of the tour,” he added.

The press release also revealed that during their return journey to Miri, the bikers covered an additional distance of 558km. They passed through Sibu, Bruit, Mukah, Kuala Tatau, and Bintulu, making several pit stops at PETRONAS petrol stations along the way.

The event was organised by KSRP in collaboration with KSRP Bikers Club, PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd (PDB), PETRONAS station dealers in northern and central Sarawak, and Malaysia LNG Group of Companies. — DayakDaily
