Residents of Taman Saberkas Jaya in Bintulu now have reliable piped gas, ready to power kitchens.By DayakDaily Team
KUCHING, Feb 4: Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) has successfully extended piped natural gas supply to Taman Saberkas Jaya, making it the second neighbourhood in Bintulu to enjoy direct gas access.
While four households are already connected, PETROS said that an additional 21 homes are scheduled for connection by the end of February 2026.
According to a media release today, the milestone follows the Sungai Plan residential gas supply project launched in July last year, reflecting PETROS’ commitment to providing reliable, affordable, and convenient energy to more Sarawakian families.
The Taman Saberkas Jaya project is part of the Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR), a strategic initiative by the Sarawak government implemented by PETROS to expand domestic gas utilisation and increase energy access for local communities.
The project involved internal piping installations within homes and the construction of extensive gas mains along the Bintulu–Samalaju coastal road, ensuring safe and reliable gas delivery to the neighbourhood.
The completion of the gas main reticulation pipeline also establishes a strategic platform for future expansion, enabling gas distribution to surrounding residential, commercial, and industrial developments along the Bintulu–Samalaju coastal corridor.
These efforts support PETROS’ broader target of increasing statewide domestic gas utilisation from 6 per cent to at least 30 per cent by 2030, contributing to Sarawak’s long-term energy security and energy transition goals.
As the State’s gas aggregator, PETROS continues to develop, expand, manage, and maintain critical gas and energy infrastructure, ensuring Sarawak’s gas resources translate into inclusive benefits for its people. — DayakDaily
