KUCHING, June 26: Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) said it is unaware of any alleged leak of confidential information belonging to Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) involving its personnel, following testimony raised in an ongoing court trial.
In a statement issued today, PETROS stressed that it is not involved in, nor privy to, any alleged attempt to disclose confidential PETRONAS information.
“PETROS is not in any way privy to the alleged attempted disclosure of information,” the company said.
It added that it had taken note of media reports on the court proceedings and respects the judicial process, saying it will not interfere in the case.
“We urge members of the public and the media to exercise due care and avoid publishing or disseminating any defamatory statements or imputations about PETROS or its officers arising from this matter,” it said.
PETROS added that the company would take necessary steps to safeguard its employees and interests.
Acccordint to The Edge Malaysia, the statement comes in response to testimony in the trial of former PETRONAS business performance unit manager Mohd Khairul Akmal Jasni, who is accused of allegedly leaking a confidential document dated June 8, 2024, to two senior PETROS officers.
Former PETRONAS senior manager for industrial relations Jumsuri Basri, the prosecution’s first witness, told the Sessions Court that Khairul Akmal had sent a document titled “Q1 2024 Upstream Business Performance” to two senior PETROS officers.
He also testified that PETRONAS’ cybersecurity team verified the transmission of the document to PETROS after an earlier attempt to send the file reportedly failed due to its size.
The case has drawn attention amid an ongoing dispute between PETRONAS and PETROS over control and oversight of Sarawak’s oil and gas resources, a matter currently before the Federal Court. — DayakDaily
