The recognition comes as part of the globally renowned RoSPA Awards programme, organised by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, which this year marks its 70th anniversary.

What began as a small UK initiative to encourage safer workplaces has grown into one of the world’s largest and most respected health and safety awards schemes, attracting around 2,000 entries from nearly 60 countries in 2026.

The RoSPA Awards are open to organisations of all sizes, from small and medium enterprises to multinational corporations. The application process encourages participants to critically review and strengthen their safety systems, supporting continuous professional development (CPD) and reinforcing a culture of ongoing learning aimed at reducing workplace incidents.

By securing the Silver Award, Petrosains Sdn Bhd joins a distinguished global community of organisations committed to protecting people both at work and in public-facing environments. As part of the PETRONAS group, Petrosains continues to embed a strong culture of care across all operations.

Petrosains chief executive officer Ezarisma Azni Mohamad said the award reflects the organisation’s unwavering commitment to safety and responsibility.

“We are honoured to receive the RoSPA Silver Award during its landmark 70th anniversary, an achievement that reflects Petrosains’ unwavering commitment to protecting our people, partners and visitors.

“As part of the PETRONAS group, we are guided by a strong culture of care, where safety is not just a priority, but a shared responsibility embedded in everything we do. This recognition underscores our continuous efforts to create safe and inspiring environments that enable learning, discovery and meaningful impact for the communities we serve,” he said in a media release today.

RoSPA’s Growth director, Julia Small, said Petrosains’ achievement demonstrates sustained excellence in health and safety performance.

“RoSPA congratulates Petrosains Sdn Bhd on its RoSPA Health and Safety Award. The high standards Petrosains has achieved are the result of hard work and dedication, of which RoSPA is delighted to honour. 2026 is a landmark year for the RoSPA Awards as we reflect on how far workplace safety has come in 70 years. It is because of the commitment of health and safety leaders like Petrosains Sdn Bhd, that people today are safer at work than in the past, and sets an inspiring example for the future,” she said.

The awards programme is sponsored by the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH), a leading international provider of health, safety, and environmental qualifications.

NEBOSH chief quality officer and head judge of the RoSPA Awards, Dee Arp, highlighted the broader significance of the recognition.

“NEBOSH is proud to be the headline sponsor of the RoSPA Awards. They provide an opportunity to celebrate excellence in health and safety, while also helping to strengthen a culture of care, accountability and continuous improvement. These awards are a powerful reminder that protecting people transcends borders, and that supporting employees to return home safe, healthy and happy each day is fundamental to long-term success and resilience,” she said.

The recognition further reinforces Petrosains’ position as a key advocate for workplace safety excellence within Malaysia’s science and education landscape, while contributing to global best practices in occupational health and safety. — DayakDaily
