Pickup truck crash claims one life in Kuching

KUCHING (Aug 11): A male driver was killed after his pickup truck crashed into a roadside tree at Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho here early this morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement said the deceased was identified as Dickson Anggop, 36.

Bomba said they were notified about the incident at 2.52am and firefighters from the Batu Lintang fire station were despatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the victim was found trapped in the vehicle. Firefighters managed to extricate the victim from the vehicle, but paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene,” it added.

Bomba said a male passenger managed to exit the vehicle with assistance from the members of the public.

The deceased’s body was handed over to the police for transport to the Sarawak General Hospital’s forensics department for further action.

After ensuring that the area was safe to other road users, the firefighters wrapped up the operation 3.47am.
