KUCHING: The Sarawak government plans to relocate the Samarahan Divisional Social Welfare Office (PKMB) to a more suitable location to facilitate improved service operations in more conducive conditions.

This decision comes in response to the department’s high demand for services compared to other locations.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri expressed confidence that the transfer would enhance service delivery in the future, although the implementation timeline remains uncertain.

“We are not certain when it will be implemented, however, I am sure that the state government will do something to improve this service,” she stated during a press conference after officiating the Yayasan Petronas Uplifting Lives Festive (ULF) 2023 programme at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) on Friday (Dec 15).

Addressing concerns about departmental services, Nancy revealed that steps have been taken to address the issue. She highlighted the importance of patience and understanding in communication between service providers and recipients.

“We can’t blame the customers who come to ask for help because some of them really need our good service. Therefore, we always remind the employees to be careful and patient in dealing with customers,” she urged.

Earlier this month, a case related to unsatisfactory services at PKMB Samarahan went viral on social media.

PKMB Samarahan provided an explanation for the misunderstanding, and the individual involved has since taken down the posts, which had garnered significant reactions from other users.
