Platform builders build younger generation characters

MIRI, Sept. 13: The Scout Movement is seen not only as a platform for co-curricular activities but also plays an important role in shaping a disciplined, integrated, responsible and humane young generation.

Deputy Minister in Sarawak's Premier Department (Research, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala said that the development of a community not only depends on infrastructure construction but also requires quality human capital development.

"The most important development is the development of our people and our societies.

"We can build tall buildings and long roads, but if we do not develop people and societies that are knowledgeable, disciplined, integrated and have human values, that development will not deliver the benefits we expect", he said.

He said this during his speech at the Miri 2.0 Area Guards' Appreciation Council here, last night.

According to him, the values implemented through the Scout movement remain relevant even though younger generations are now facing changes in a technology-driven world, including artificial intelligence (AI) and the digital economy.

He said the slogan 'Be Prepared' not only means to be prepared to participate in activities of the Scout, but educates its members to always be ready for challenges, failures, responsibilities and needs of society.

Meanwhile, Gerawat also appreciated the leaders of Pengakap, teachers, school authorities, Miri Regional Education Office (PPD) and parents for their continued support to the development of the movement.

"A prize is not a finish, but an award is a trust and the foundation for pursuing greater success", he said.
