KUCHING (March 27): Police are investigating a domestic violence case which saw a woman injured after allegedly being punched and slapped by her estranged husband.
Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said a report regarding the incident was received at 2.02am on Thursday.
He said initial investigations revealed that the incident took place at around 12.30am in the living room of a house in a Bau village.
“Investigations found that a verbal altercation broke out between the suspect and the victim, believed to have arisen from an issue concerning the suspect’s relationship with another woman.
“The suspect then punched and slapped the victim’s face several times, causing the victim to suffer pain and bruising to the cheeks,” he said in a statement.
He said the couple’s child witnessed the incident.
Mohd Haide said the investigation found the couple no longer live together, but the suspect had frequently acted violently towards the victim since a year ago.
He said statements had been recorded and the victim had been given a treatment form for further examination at Bau Hospital.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994.
