KUCHING, Dec 18: A police report has been lodged against Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal over his ‘Malay only for PM’ remark.

Soo Tien Ren, assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, who filed the report at the Kuching police headquarters here, stated that the move was to allow the authorities to investigate the ‘incendiary’ statement made by Wan Fayhsal on his Facebook page on Dec 14.

“Malaysia is a diverse nation with multiple ethnicities, cultures and regional diversities. Within its borders reside numerous minority groups.

“As internal minorities within the nation, there shouldn’t exist a situation where becoming a Prime Minister would marginalise these groups.

“However, if the constitution were to be amended to exclude minorities from holding the Prime Minister post, it would effectively be telling these minority groups, ‘You do not belong in this country’,” Soo said in a statement today.

Soo further claimed that Wan Fayhsal’s remark incites hostility among Malaysia’s diverse ethnicities and contravene the spirit of the Federal Constitution.

“If such rhetoric doesn’t warrant police intervention, does it imply that anyone can speak without consequences? Is it implying that the majority can freely discriminate against minorities, leading to tyranny of the majority?” he questioned.

On Dec 14, Wan Fayhsal via Facebook post proposed a constitutional amendment that would restrict the Prime Minister post exclusively to Malay Muslims only. – DayakDaily
