SERIAN (Dec 9): Police seized 690 vape liquid cartridges believed to contain cannabis, worth RM586,500, and arrested a 20-year-old man during a raid at a courier service centre at Jalan Kong Ping last Friday.
Padawan district police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi said the operation was carried out by a team from the Sarawak Contingent Police at around 9am.
“The team also seized RM470 in cash and a motorcycle. The seized cartridges could be used for 3,450 doses,” he said during a press conference at the Padawan district police headquarters in Siburan on Tuesday afternoon.
Mohd Irwan said the suspect had allegedly been involved in drug distribution since September this year, receiving RM200 to collect packages from courier services and RM20 for each cartridge delivered to customers around Kuching and Padawan.
As such, he said the police are now tracking down the syndicate leader and wider network behind the operation.
Elaborating further, he said the drugs are believed to be supplied from Peninsular Malaysia, using fake addresses for the delivery.
“For the distribution, the suspect would repackage the drugs into biscuit packages; with one cartridge alone worth RM450,” he said.

Mohd Irwan revealed that each cartridge has a street value of RM450.
Although the suspect tested negative for drugs, he has one prior drug-related record.
He has been remanded for seven days from Dec 7 to 13 to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“This raid was the result of continuous intelligence work and cooperation from the public. The Padawan District Police is committed to protecting current and future generations from the scourge of drugs.
“The public is urged to share information related to drug activities via the JSJN IPK Sarawak hotline at 017-5929211.
“The public is also warned against being lured by modern drug forms disguised as drinks or vape products as these substances pose severe risks, leading to loss of self control,” he added.
